End-of-the-year cumulative blog post (2014)

28.12.2014

So we've reached the end of 2014, the first year with our own brand, and it was certainly a great one!

Since the inception, which started early this year and finalized a few months later, we knew that going on our own, with no connections (which are really important in China) and our entire approach being different from other music production companies here, it's not going to be an easy and straight-forward road. We knew that although the demand for high-end music is there and growing, it would still take a lot of time and effort to get this thing going and let people know about us. The response was, however, quite astonishing.

After the initial "starting up" time, we were lucky enough to jump right in, soon becoming extremely busy working on one project right after another, month after month. It really means a lot to see so many people interested in our music and wanting to work with us, and it all happened much sooner than we expected!

SCORIGAMI soundtracks quickly became in much higher demand than we anticipated (or were even wishing for!) and it's all thanks to all of the wonderful people who helped us, believed in us and trusted us.
It was also during this first year for SCORIGAMI to receive the honor of becoming the only music production studio in China officially recommended by the Polish Government.

We want to THANK YOU SO MUCH for making it all possible, and take a moment to share with you some of our plans for 2015. So here are some thoughts from SCORIGAMI's founder, Henryk Iwan:

"Becoming fully independent and starting our own brand was definitely the biggest and most important decision I had to make this year, but now I can already say it was also the best one. Starting SCORIGAMI was the only way to keep the creative and artistic aspects before the business side, and continue to do things the right way. I know it may sound kind of "idealistic", but all the feedback we are receiving only proves that it's not just us who can see the importance of this and hear the difference. I have to say it gives me a lot of joy, satisfaction and energy to see people appreciating our approach and choosing to work with us, for which I am extremely grateful!

I also want to apologize to all the people whose projects we couldn't take in, but as you know, SCORIGAMI is not a big production house that can handle tons of projects. There are no multiple teams of composers working at the same time, there is no outsourcing and no mass-production of music, and SCORIGAMI is going to stay this way - small, but focused on truly high-end quality.

We do realize that with such demand for our soundtracks it would be normal to start expanding now, and business-wise it would be an obvious and natural step to make. But growing in numbers isn't our goal, and we know that hiring additional composers to handle this extra workload would automatically mean that at least part of our works would be different from what you expect from SCORIGAMI. After all, creating music is not a "factory" type of work, and besides all the skills and experience, it's also very much about the personal taste of the composer, recording & mixing engineers etc. So at the end of the day, we sell our taste, which is very personal indeed and as such, if music is made by different people, it is always a different music. And whether this taste is also close to yours, or you prefer something quite different, I believe it's safe to say that SCORIGAMI soundtracks have certain flavors and qualities that you won't find anywhere else.

With that said however, not growing "sideways" doesn't mean we are not growing "upwards", and this is the direction I always want to take with SCORIGAMI. To give you an example, in just the last 3 months alone the studio has been expanded with over 30 (!) new instruments, another monstrous workstation and plenty other little toys. One of those fantastic new additions is an absolutely HUGE 240-people orchestra, which is the largest symphony ensemble ever sampled, and not available to general public (invitation only). The word "epic" doesn't really do it justice and you simply have to hear it to believe it.
So as you can see, we choose to remain small but fully loaded with the latest cutting-edge technology, and most importantly, work with people whose goal and passion is to create truly outstanding and unique works.

Growing "taller" instead of "fatter" is our way of remaining on top and staying ahead, so our workload will remain similar but I believe in the end it only benefits YOU. Because ultimately, it isn't good if this time it's somebody else's project being handed over to someone with less skills or experience - next time it could be yours.

We don't cut corners, we do not outsource, and we don't re-sell other people's works under our brand. It's all our own, in-house productions, where no expense is spared and everything is created the way we believe works best for you and your project. It is our choice to keep it that way.

To close, I'd like to sincerely thank you again for supporting us during this transitional year and wish you all the very best in 2015.
Let's make more great things together!"
